The Ombre Trend

Thought the dip-dye trend was dead? Think again! A-listers are still loving ombre locks...

What exactly is Ombre?
Ombré is a French word that literally means "shaded like a gradient." Roots remain dark while the rest of the hair becomes lighter mid-shaft using a balayage technique. Check out this photo of model Lily Aldridge. Her dark to light color is a great example of ombré. This trend is also referred to as "surfer strands."

As Merriam-Webster defines it:
om·bré / having colors or tones that shade into each other —used especially of fabrics in which the color is graduated from light to dark.

It’s been spotted on plenty of A-list celebs:

Lauren Conrad

Rachel Bilson

Kate Winslet

Whitney Port

Finally, a trend that doesn’t require a busy woman of the world to run to the salon every 6-10 weeks for a touch-up!

In the past year, the ombre trend has made quite a splash across fashion runways and into the home decor industry. The colorful trend can be spotted in hair color, shower curtains, nail enamel, cell phone covers and even shoes!

Here are a few pics of other Ombre trends....
